Warning Signs To Look Out For

The Bible teaches Christians to guard their heart above all else.  Christians, as in individuals, are much more restricted in what they do and the activities that they take part in as a result of their devotion to God.  Additionally, the Bible states clearly that dating or even marrying non-Christians and non-believers is to be avoided by Christians, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14.  However, many people make an effort to put on the appearance that they are Christians when, in reality, they frequently exhibit behavior that proves otherwise.  When searching for an ideal match for you and your Christian Faith while dating, you will be best served by diligently looking for warning signs that your partner may not be the Christian that he or she claims to be.

Warning sign #1: Swearing and Blasphemy

"Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." – Matthew 15:11

The Bible says the things that a person says are frequently a direct reflection on the condition of his or her mind and, more importantly, his or her soul.  If the person you are dating is frequently prone to lash out with swear words and especially blasphemy, then you should assess whether this is the person that is best suited for you and your Faith in God.

Warning sign #2:  Overindulgence in alcohol

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit” - Ephesians 5:18

The Bible teaches us that drinking alcohol is not a sin, but drinking alcohol excessively to the point of drunkenness is to be avoided.  If your partner drinks excessively to the point of drunkenness very often, in addition to substance abuse counseling he or she may need fellowship and spiritual counseling in order to get his or her Faith back on track.

Warning sign #3: Lust

“For lust is a shameful sin, a crime that should be punished. It is a devastating fire that destroys to hell. It would wipe out everything I own.” - Job 31:11-12

Lust is a selfish thing.  Any person that lusts thinks purely of the pleasures of their body and neglects their soul and their Faith.  Christian singles must be diligent in ensuring that they do not succumb to the temptations of lust, as they are bombarded with it seemingly from everywhere.
